The Details.

The Map.

The Route.

  1. Start your walk at The Padarn Country Car Park (LL55 4EL), opposite the Snowdonia Watersports Centre. Head along the shore of the lake, opting for an anti-clockwise route.

  2. Pass the Village Car Park and proceed to the lakeside recreation area. Cross the footbridge into Lakeside Car Park, following the white waymarks into the field. Here you will have amazing views towards Crib Coch and Castell Dolbadarn.

  3. Navigate the picturesque Cae’r Ddôl meadows, reaching the main footbridge over Afon y Bala river. Turn left towards the Padarn Country Park Information Kiosk.

  4. Follow the white waymarks through the car park, continuing towards the Quarry Hospital.

  5. Keep the Quarry Hospital on your right as you follow the path into the woods. Here the path becomes narrow and steeper. Keep following the white waymarkers and enjoy the viewpoint over the lake.

  6. You will then come to a section where there are two paths (and no markers) - either path can be taken as they both lead to the footbridge over the stream.

  7. The left path leads to the remnants of an old woollen mill and workers’ cottages, although unmarked and unmaintained.

  8. Both paths converge at a wooden kissing gate. Continue along the narrow road passing disused quarries and a cafe.

  9. The path on the right leads to Craig y Llew/Lion Rock, a favorite rock-climbing spot for beginners. Cross the bridge at Pen y Llyn for a panoramic view, unveiling the valley's glacial history.

  10. Follow the old road, merging onto the Lôn Las Peris cycle track.

  11. At the old road's end, pass through gates. Follow the path rightward, crossing the main road at the designated point. Rejoin the Lôn Las Peris cycle track, venturing through the old railway tunnel beneath the main road.

  12. Follow the track, passing Llyn Tan Y Pant.

  13. From here, all you need to do is follow the cycle track along the lakeside and eventually find yourself on the main road again for a short section before you reach your starting point.
