Aber Falls Walk

Have you heard of Aber Falls? If not, it's time to pack your hiking gear and head on over to this stunning location in North Wales.

Trust me, it's a must-visit for anyone who’s looking for an outdoor adventure in Snowdonia.

Topping my list of favourite waterfall walks in North Wales, Aber Falls is a great way to get out and explore the beautiful Welsh countryside.

Here’s everything you need to know about visiting Aber Falls and the scenic Aber Falls Walk…

Where is Aber Falls?

Located in the heart of Snowdonia National Park, Aber Falls is a 120-foot waterfall that cascades down into a plunge pool below.

The falls are situated in the village of Abergwyngregyn, just a short drive from the popular tourist destination of Llanfairfechan.

Aber Falls Walk - The Details

The walk to Aber Falls is a fantastic adventure that's suitable for all ages and abilities.

The walk to the falls and back is about 4.5 km long, taking approximately 30-40 minutes each way.

The path is one of the shortest walks in North Wales - making it a great starting point when exploring Snowdonia.

The National Park Authority has categorised the route as an ‘Easy – Access for All’ route. Meaning the Aber Falls Walk is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Aber Falls Walk - The Accessible Route

The accessible path to Aber Falls

The trail to Aber Falls is well-marked, so you don't need to worry about getting lost.

The walk starts just outside the village of Abergwyngregyn, from the upper or lower carpark (see details below).

Then follow these instructions:

  1. Cross a small bridge and follow the yellow arrows until you reach a wooden hut.

  2. Go past the hut and through the wide gates.

  3. You'll pass by streams as the path begins to incline.

  4. Pass Bwthyn Cottage on your left before continuing along the path.

  5. Pass two iron gates and continue. As you get closer to the falls, the trail becomes steeper, but the views become even more stunning.

  6. You will then arrive at a fork in the path, bear right and continue along the accessible path.

  7. Pass through a small metal gate, with views of the falls ahead.

  8. When you finally reach the falls, you'll be greeted by the sound of rushing water and the sight of the impressive cascade.

After spending time at Aber Falls, you’ll follow your steps back to the car park.

Aber Falls Parking

There are two car parks available at the start of the Aber Falls Walk:

  • Upper Car Park (What 3 Words: ///redeemed.lure.tabloid)

  • Lower Car Park (What 3 Words: ///sleeper.gratuity.imitate)

Both car parks are located just outside the village of Abergwyngregyn, which is where you'll start your hike.

There is a small charge and it can get very busy during peak season, so make sure you arrive early to avoid the crowds.

Aber Falls Walks - Alternative Routes

If you’re looking for a slightly more challenging walk then the Aber Falls Circular Walk is for you.

This is a 6.5km route, taking approximately 3 hours.

The route follows the main path to the falls, before turning right across the river and then right again to climb above the valley and back down into the village.

I personally prefer this route as you get to explore more of the gorgeous Snowdonia countryside.
