  1. Starting from White Moss Car Park, start your walk through the enchanting woodlands between Grasmere and Rydal Water.

  2. As you exit the woodlands, the landscape opens up. Turn right as you slowly start your ascent up Loughrigg Fell. Before long, after a short incline, you’ll be amazed at the views of Grasmere surrounding you.

    Fun Fact: This section is known as Loughrigg Terrace and was the filming location for many of the outdoor scenes in the Beatrix Potter film.

  3. After a short while, before reaching Deerbolts Woods, you’ll take a left, and start a steeper ascent to the summit of Loughrigg Fell.

  4. Continue to climb as the route unveils captivating views of Rydal Water and the surrounding fells.

  5. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be treated to 360’ views of the magnificent Lake District including Windermere, The Old Man of Coniston, The Langdale Pikes and more.

  6. To make this a circular route (which I much prefer!) - head down from the summit, away from the way you came up.

  7. Continue to descend, heading towards Rydal Water.

  8. Towards the bottom of your descent, you’ll come across Rydal Cave on your right.

  9. After exploring the cave, take a left and follow the edge of the shores of Rydal Water. Make sure you take a look back at the picturesque peak you’ve just hiked!

  10. Soon you’ll return to the woods, where you retrace your steps back to White Moss Car Park.
